Dispute resolution for motor accident claims of up to $3,000

BT Sep 2, 2011- TO ADDRESS the issue of escalating claims, non-injury motor accident claims of $3,000 or less now have to be heard first by the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre (FIDReC) before court proceedings can start. This has been raised from the $1,000 limit previously.

The move is in line with recommendations put forward by the Motor Insurance Taskforce last year.

Cost of returning Rental Vehicle Benefit

We will reimburse the cost of returning the rental vehicle to the rental vehicle depot in the event that insured is unable to do so due to hospitalization whilst overseas.

Disruption Benefits

We will now not only reimburse the cost of unused entertainment tickets that the insured had prepurchased but will also reimburse the cost of the Frequent Flyer Points that were used in redemption of benefits that are unused due to specific events.

What’s Improved?

Travel Cancellation and Travel Postponement

Coverage has been extended to include Natural Disasters, Epidemic or Pandemic (as declared by the World Health Organization), major industrial accidents and events leading to airspace or airport closures.

Travel Curtailment

Coverage has been extended to include Epidemic or Pandemic, major industrial accidents and events leading to airspace or airport closures.

Travel Delay and Flight Diversion

Coverage has been extended to include Natural Disasters, Civil Unrest, Riot or Commotion, Epidemic or Pandemic , major industrial accidents, events leading to airspace or airport closures and actual or suspected mechanical breakdown or structural defect of the mode of transport insured is travelling in.

Other changes introduced to the enhanced Travel Guard include:

  • Specific definitions for Leisure sports like Expedition, Extreme Sports and Sporting Activities
  • New Terms and Definitions in the Policy Wording (e.g. Major Travel Event, Pre-Existing Medical Conditions, Manual Work)

You will continue to enjoy many of the existing features and benefits for both Per Trip and Annual Multi-Trip Plans:

  • No age limit
  • We pay for all claims from the first dollar
  • 24/7 Medical Assistance
  • Unlimited coverage for Emergency Medical Evacuation under the Premier and Superior Plans
  • Up to S$2,000,000 overseas medical coverage under the Premier Plan

Insurer to pay for sub-contract worker's injury

ST Jul 4, 2011 - The Court of Appeal has held that an insurance company will have to reimburse a contractor who is due to pay a sub-contractor's worker for injuries suffered on the job.

With this judgment, the court has clarified that, based on the wording of the standard insurance policy (Work Injury Compensation Insurance), the insurance contract taken up by the main contractor should also make a payout in a workplace accident even if the injured party is not a direct employee of the main contractor.

New insurance policy to protect directors of firms

BT 29 Jun, 2011 - THE Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) and Aon Singapore yesterday unveiled a portable and individual insurance protection for directors and officers (D&O) of a company, available exclusively to SID members.

Michael Griffiths, director of professional services at Aon Singapore, said: 'The increasing scrutiny on the performance of directors and officers in Singapore highlights the need for personal protection against exposure to legal liability. Insurer to share info on bad drivers

June 25, 2011 - Motor insurers are setting up a common database which will keep track of drivers with poor safety records or who have made inflated or fraudulent insurance claims - in other words, those who are deemed a bad risk to the industry and to the motoring public at large.
